Hello,

I am looking into setting up a tank with only neon tetras.....

But i want shoal activity so I am thinking like 50+ neon tetras

What size tank would i need to achieve this without even coming close to maximium capicity

In addition I want to aquascape the tank with a ground covering kinda look with greyish-blue colored rocks coming up from the bottom

So I would like a basic ground cover with some taller plants in the back

What size tank you think i should use to achieve this look......will co2 be necessary for the plant life?

I would think a 55 gallon would work, but i'd go with a 90 gallon just incase and if it's to big for the fisht o fill it up, just add more.
As for CO2, from what I understand, it really depends on the plants you choose.

i have a 120 gallon planted and i don't run CO2 at all in my tank as long as you have good lights you shouldnt have a problem. as for ground cover i recommend that you have the correct substrate i have always had troubles getting my groundcover to root. it always grows well but my power head just wrecks all my groundcover.

i think a 55g would be fine. anything bigger and 50 neons are gonna disappear in the tank. as for co2, its a balance you have to find. the plants you choose will dictate your co2/lighting requirements. if youre going with high lighting, then you will need co2 or you will have algae problems.

you can also stick to lower light levels and easy to grow plants and avoid the need for added co2...
