How Big W/ 5/8"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Shouldn't need a center brace if you run a heavy enough frame around the inside of the top of the tank.

the front of my plywood tank is 60"x36", and I used 5/8" glass, no center brace, zero bowing.

It would'nt need a center brace. You gonna have 1' of ? on both sides?
Thanks. Yeah, one foot on each side probably. It would be like an 8' viewing window...

Thanks. How much should I overlap?

5/8" glass WILL bow! I've seen it bowing at 5/8th or more! Mine had a 2'x2' piece right in the middle that broke/came loose while full of water. Glass will bow!

I was thinking of doing the same thing on my DIY tank when I build it. I was thinkin about making the tank 9', but the piece of glass that I have is about 7.5'.

5/8" thick glass should cover what you are wanting to do, I would just second the recommendation that you make sure the bracing is solid around the frame of the tank.

Yes, it will. If the tank is properly framed in though, it won't. Like I said, mine doesn't, and it's 3 feet tall by 5 feet long. It just has enough framing to support the glass.

You could always throw a center brace in there just to be safe.

I know when i build my DIY tank. I will positeively put a center brace in it. There is no sense in pushing your luck.
