My tank is a 90 gallon with a Fx5 and Koralia water pump #3. The stock list is one oscar 5", one firemouth 2.5", and one african knife 6". I cannot seem to get the water looking good. There are always small particles in the water and it always appears cloudy. The Fx5 is filled with pre filter in the first tray, and I just added two bags of carbon to try and clear up the water. The second is bio max and third is eheim efhisubstrat. I was thinking of adding a water pump or ac110 to try and clear it up. I do a 30%-40% water change every week. The params are always perfect. Thanks

Is the cloudyness white in color? In the past when I have had troubles with cloudy white water, I discovered I lacked beneficial bacteria. I added more bio media and waited a few weeks, and the water cleared. Furthermore, I don't know a lot about water chemistry, but I do know that my water parameters were just fine while my water was cloudy too.

As stated if it is white you need more BB.
Next time you do your WC and gravel cleaning try and only get the gunk from the top and don't clean it as heavily as you have in the past.

As noted above if its a milky cloudiness its most likely a bacteria bloom.
How long has the tank been setup ?
How often and what do you feed ?

I know when i use too much Big Als chlorine remover my water will look milky for a day after a water change but as everyone has stated it probily is a bb bloom.

Tank has been set up for half a year now, I feed hikari sinking pellets and frozen bloodworms twice a day. The cloudiness is white in color so I guess I don't have enough BB. I'll have to set my eheim 2215 up on this tank as well i guess with strictly Bio then. THanks for responses.
Also would chaning the prefilter to biomax make that big of a difference? Thanks

You may also want to cut down on the feeding, thats a lot. I only feed mine once a day sometimes every other. May be part of the problem.

Cutting back on feedings now, I have sand as a substrate so there can be no BB in there, but the tank seems to be clearing up much better since the last water change. My only concern is there are still particles so I guess I have some dead spots. The intake is situated on the far left of the tank with the output on the ride along with the water pump pointing downwards and towards the center of the tank. Any suggestions as how to fix dead spots? Or just add another pump?

go with a small HOB filter and just fill it with filter padding so that there is more benifical bacteria buildup and that should take care of the cloudiness and particles but with the movement in water you will have few particles every now and then and try to switch to a flake and cut back on the bloodworms to only 2 to 3 times a week and the pellet once a day or every other day.

I dont completely agree with all the opinions above... Fluval pre-filter beads are simply not enough mechanical filtration for that tank with Oscars. Not even close. You need at least one stage of sponge in there (preferably 2 or 3), in order to keep the biomedia clean & working efficiently. If not, your bio gets smothered with waste & then has to re-populate, causing a bloom. I would just combine the 2 bio trays into 1, then fill the middle tray with whatever sponge or foam you can find to fit. The white haze may be a BB bloom, but you already have a lot of biomedia in there so I would try the mech first. Unless you have Ammo or nitrite present, your current bio should be more than enough. If you want to add another filter, make it heavy on the mech & change that stuff out weekly to remove the waste before it starts to break down. This should solve the particulate issue, too. You simply aren't filtering it out with the prefilter media. You need something finer.
