i was chattin to a friend of mine today and he said to me to try and get my snakeheads on pellets,he has red bellied piranahs and said to me that he wishes he put them on pellets as he spends a BOMB!! every week on feeders for them, plus theres more tank maintenence to do when you are feeding them feeders as they are very messy fish when eating.i offerd them pellets today and they just turned their noses up to them! then i went out of my way and went down to my LFS and bought a few feeder fish and put them in there, they were gone in about 5 mins!!! i was like wtf!! lol the big question is,is it possible to weave them off live food. another thing i have read is that a snakeheads diet MUST! include live foods is this true thanx 4 reading! theres a pic or 2 here for u all to see to enjoy

Hi,that is a hard task but not impossible especially if the channas were fed with live feeders up to now,try starving them for a few days or more, then feed them pellets.

well when i picked them up,i asked the fella what he was feeding them and he said to me he was throwing the odd guppie in and and pellets but i think he was lying a bit as the channas didnt wanna no 1 single bit but as soon as the fish went in,BANG!!! they took them lol

thnx

Hi,yes channas are predators and have a natural hunger for fish, its normal that if they have a choice they will prefer fish.

Hi,

I wouldnt starve these skinny pleuros at all. They dont look very good, so get them to proper bellies by feeding them what they eat, and try to teac them on pellets later.

Cheers

I have a group of juvie pleuros myself and i got them fat on earthworms first and am in the process of getting them to eat fishmeat and pellets now

put a teacher that wouldnt fit in its mouth,a goldfish maybe

As stated mate feed them up first, What i did with my pleuro and obscura is, brought frozen prawns, defrosted them and chopped them into four bite size peices,I tied on peice to a lengh of fishing line, very loose, then dangled it in the tank wiggling it about, they looked a while them bam, and that got them onto prawns which i buy cheap frozen from tesco very cheap, then after a while leave feeding a few days to a week and try prawns with pellets, ensure you have bite sized pellets, My most difficult were the channa ornatipinnis to get weaned onto any food, only thing they ate was dried mealworms which you can get feom local garden centres, ment for feeding garden birds,,,,now there muching wonderfully now on frozen blood worm, dont be afraid not to feed for a few days or week

hey :) yeah i think you should just feed them up with feeders first then put in another fish that wont do it any harm but will go straight for any frozen fish you put in there so the sh will then learn how to accept other frozen foods :) i did this uknowingly for my micros and it worked a treat :D
