hey guys/gals. i was wondering whats the best way to get rid of brown algae in my 10g nano reef? it seems like its getting worse. i have shut all the lights off and i do religous wc every week. are there any products i could buy that might help? i dont want it to kill my corals and anemone. please help!

ro/di water works best for me at keeping the diatoms down. you can also use phosphate removing media ie phosban etc...

Yeah switching to RO water fixed this for me.

ferrous oxide i think it's called.... if not (cause that sounds too much like plain old rust) it's ferrous....something.or.another used that on my first tank and took care of the brown and red film algea

lol close! Ferric oxide

this is a normal process that marine tanks go through. If you do something to upset the balance in your tank you could have a mini cycle and end up with the brown diatoms again, but they should disappear much quicker. I would check on your nitrate and phosphate readings. They will have alot to do with it, also you should be using r/o water.
