How can I maximize growth of my peacock fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^yup^ I'm gonna start doing a Lot more water changes at least until they are all fully colored up and have a good size on them.

oh.. forgot to mention this earlier... a FULL 2" is when the colors start to really show... may not see anything at 1 3/4" but trust me... it'll come.

Also It'll appear that the darker colored peacocks will color first, when it's just pigment, the light yellow of say a Lemon Jake wouldnt be noticed as easily as say a Blue Orchid's darkness if they were identical in care and age

Personal experience, 2 of the young peacocks I mentioned earlier, are a Lemon Jake and a German Red, the Red was coming through noticeably more than the Jakes yellows, believe me... I'm dying for my babies to color up too, they're teasing me with this little bit of color behind their gills and touches of blue on theyre lower jaw... I wanna give them some Barry Bonds Juice!!!

not too soon I hope...

get some pics up soon love to see them.... also, what type of peacocks are they???

Yeah I looked at them today and not quite 2 inches but say 1.5 to 1.75" and I have
Strawberry
Sunshine
Sunburst
Blue regal
Yellow regal
Chiwindi
And possibly one more that I'm not sure of, and I will post pics for sure when they start to color up but posting now would be useless because they are all either brown or pinkish. And thanks your post gave me some motivation to keep waiting lol. Its getting really hard and kinda annoying to keep waiting to see and the one with the little yellow on his tail is driving me nuts with his teasing although I'm certain he is a yellow regal.

Couple of unnaturals in there, but still a very nice selection. Where did you get them? They werent named?... not probing, just trying to figure out how you got all the other names and not the one

The Y Regal, is it the Stuartgranti or Baenschi Var.? Cant remember off the top of my head but one is a little more yellow than the other

Yeah the 2 with sun in their names are not natural but I'm sure I have 1 more natural. And I got them from a local breeder, and I'm not sure what you mean by they weren't named? He only called them by common names and not by scientific. The yellow regal is baenschi. He has a website so I'm going to check it out again and see I might be mixing up and actually not have any others.

He also has some eureka red but I just remembered that he told me the fry he had were still very small so I chose to go with everything else and according to him they are pure blood heritage so I guess everything but the sunburst and sunshine are pure. Oh and I don't mind questions at all, I have nothing to hide lol.

You are gonna have troubles with the females... it may be impossible to tell wht female is wht. Also a few from each species will color up more than the rest. Color is a dominance thing, mostly the most dominant male in that tank will color up earliest and brightest. All the males will show some color but ideally you would just want a couple males of each kind in the long run. To keep them at hteir brightest. Just my experience.

That's what I was thinking but I have seen those all male show tanks with stunning fish, although I'm with you on the idea of them not showing full potential. The tanks always more often than not have 1 really nice fish and the rest are so so fish showing average coloration. But I did notice that my male who is coloring up is really peaceful though, and the only time I seen any fights was between 2 lightish pink colored fry of similar size and it involved a lot of lip locking which was kind of funny and then it stopped and I never see it anymore. You never know I could end up having mostly females. Or if mostly males it could work with a few females if not i can get rid of some males because I asked the guy to double up on everything so I'm bound to have a a few females and males and if I get double males I can give the less attractive one away or sell it. Lol I'm not sure if you understood what I meant but I hope you did.
