How can I maximize growth of my peacock fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Those lip lockers are prolly males. Ive seen alot of lip locking but never with females. Im sure it happens but id say those two lil buggers are males and sorting out the pecking list

yeah because after that one of the 2 fled and came back and the other gave him some looks lol and he just swam away and returned later and they were fine. I guess all it took was a small fight and now the order is pretty much set up with those 2, I expect to see a few more fights in the coming months as the young mature a bit but I'm sure everything will be fine.

yeah its natural for all fish to establish a pecking order. Being in a aquarium can be similar to prison. You have to be strong and pro active to keep what you want. Everything and everyone has its place. Know your role.

Lol ^yup^, you don't enjoy neighbors you tolerate them. I know I most likely will not keep all 18 for sure but idk what will happen. All too young to do anything now lol. In a couple months I will know who's going and who's staying

Yeah the 2 with sun in their names are not natural but I'm sure I have 1 more natural. And I got them from a local breeder, and I'm not sure what you mean by they weren't named? He only called them by common names and not by scientific. The yellow regal is baenschi. He has a website so I'm going to check it out again and see I might be mixing up and actually not have any others.

The Sunshine is a natural, the Sunburst is not, if im not mistaken its line bred from an albino strain which was introduced by breeders. The other is the strawberry which, again if im not mistaken, is another line bred form of a hybrid the Dragonblood

Im clearly running this from memory, I'm not at a computer to verify myself, but I am pretty close to certain.

I dont really support the hybrid market unfortunatly, but they are still very beautiful

I dont have a problem with people keeping hybrids as they are still a living animal and deserve to live out a happy life, I'm just not a fan of those who pollute the genepool of an already beautiful creature and pass it off as a naturally occuring species just to make a profit, such as the bloodparrots, and flowerhorns... No matter what God you believe in, its going against them by saying they didnt do a good enough job in creating a fish... it sickens me

i dont have any intentions of breeding mine so i dont really care if they are hybrids and i think they look beautiful so it does not matter to me and i should remind you hybrids do occur naturally in nature. it is rare but it happens, and mutations are very similar to hybrids. the one thing that does worry me is if the hybrids get into the wild and destroy habitat for non-hybrid fish. i dont agree with hybrids going against gods creation if it is 2 fish of the same species like 2 peacocks breeding to produce a new one is fine but when you have 2 complete different fish breeding and producing something like parrots or genetically altering fish like glofish is wrong in my opinion. its actually sick to create glofish, sure they are not in pain but you just screwed up god's creation.

oh and dont get me started with the liger lion+tiger....its wrong and that animal can no longer produce children or live a happy life and if it were to get wild it would destroy so many exosystems

I wasnt inferring you were going to breed them... was aiming that at the ones who originated it... and a natural hybrid and a man made are on 2 different levels...

OB Peacocks, Dragonbloods, flowerhorns, blood parrots, bubblegums... and all those low class african breeders that sell their cichlids to chain petstores as "mixed African Cichlids"... theyre mixed alright...

IMO natural and man made is still the same....but I am with you on keeping strains true...it's just that I don't necessarily think mixing in home aquariums is bad. I hate interspecies hybrids but I'm personally fine with 2 of the same species mixing to get a new kind...after all mixing is what gave us variation in the first place. People do it all the time with fruits and flowers and tons of things to produce beneficial outcomes. But I still stand firm when it comes to genetic engineering of things and mixing of 2 species that would not happen in nature.

I agree, if two of my fish crossed, I would definatly keep them or distribute them among close friends, however I would NOT allow them to get leaked out into the hobby...
