How can I raise my ph?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are your fish showing signs of stress? A stable ph is always better than a fluctuating one, but if you must raise then sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is the method i would recommend as well.
Increase very slowly if thats the route you choose to take and keep a close watch on your params.

My PH is at 6 also and I was wondering why everytime I put a new fish in, it would die quickly until I measured my PH. The best way I think to raise your PH safely is to use crush coral. I use it as part of my gravel and I don't have to add any baking soda or additives everytime I change my water. If you don't like the look of crushed coral with your substrate, depending on your filtration, you can take a piece of pantyhose, fill it with crushed coral and rinse. Then you can put it in your HOB or sump. Also, the best thing about coral is that you can never put too much. The PH will stabilize up to a point and won't go any higher not matter how much coral you put in. Good luck.

It's better to have your fish adapt to your water. There are very few fish that actually require the Ph to be at a certain point for them to thrive. 10PPM nitrate is lower than my water straight out of the tap. Not a problem.

Your Red terrors will actually like the lower ph in a way I am jealous our ph is around 8. Is your qater soft as well because if it is you would have a good chance with Discus and similar requirement fish. But as stated earlier most fish are quite flexible with type of water.

Another +1 for this point. I have found that a fluctuating pH is far more dangerous than constantly trying to buffer the pH.

I actually ordered a hardness test kit and it will arrive on wednesday.
I wanted to raise my ph was that i thought that red terrors needed a higher ph.

A major problem i'm having is that some of them has gill curl and i know that usually happen with bad water but im not sure
any help???
