How can I Remove Gravel?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used a plastic cup to get most of it. Then I used a thin hard plastic cutting board to shovel the rest out. This method removed the gravel in my 240 gallon tank completely. I didn't keep it bare bottom, I replaced the gravel with black tahitian sand. I'm really happy with the black sand and so are my fish.

Not yet, I'll post pics of my tanks new look soon. You're lucky to live where Asian Arowana are available legally.

Same method I use. I just use my hands to get whatever is left though, my GF would kill me if I put one of our cutting boards in a fish tank. :nilly:

I can usually get about 98% of it with a plastic cup - the kind like you get at Taco Bell or a Gas Station work well.

@sincitydragon - yea quite lucky but there are still rare fishes here... arapaima is not very rare though TSN catfish is... I've never seen a real life one... But I'm keeping a silver, just a student so I have a tight budget... Where I live here there are asian aro farms... In dact, I pass by the area every year but never got the chance to visit.. Heard that my dad's frenz are opening a farm soon..

I always did it with my hands. However, there is a very high probability that you'll have to deal with ammonia peak after the removal. It also will crap the water. I would do it over a long period of time, letting the time to the BB to move elsewhere and minimising the water mess.
