240g with stand, canopy, heaters, filters, fish, liverock... $650

i dont want the fish or liverock so those could be sold off without too much trouble... or even given away....

im well aware that my floor can not and will not hold this tank FULL... however i cant think of a reason to maybe just fill it part way... maybe 5 inches or so.. im sure a smart man like myself could diy something to make whatever filters work.... i could get real crafty and put in a divider and build a sump right into it or something... then maybe just a few potted plants to fill the space....

ive got the money... and my gf is drooling over it... but its logic defying... and shes not real happy about the idea of getting rid of her bookshelfs and possiably the kitchen table.... but i mean its either that or the loveseat (i already traded the couch for a la-z-boy to make room for other tanks)

hmmm....

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

The word "No" really just means "I need more information.."

Maybe you could rebuild the stand to hold books below? Can't help on the kitchen table. Sounds like it might be a "buy and save for a later date" thing..

HA HA I was thinking you wanted to talk her into something else!

pfft.. comeon bro.. ive been with her for like 3 years... done and done...

the bookshelf is the breaking point on this... 8'wide 5'high PACKED with books... all closet space is already full of books.. shes a super bookworm... ive even offered to get her a shed that i wont put any tools/parts in....

she said "hey bills/rent is paid... its your money"

i know this is a bad idea.. theres no room for this tank and i know the floor cant hang with it... im sure 2 6x10 and some bricks would set my landlord at ease and take care of the floor... but my god... this house is somewhere around 900sf... theres just not room... and the tank is an hour away... im pretty sure they would want me to take the fish now...

i could just build a plywood crate and keep it in the backyard till we get a bigger place... but thats not something i intend to do in the next 2 years....

fish vs cheap house in a quiet area......

well...my bf usually does things first then asks me later (like once he bought a cat without telling me bcoz he knows i hate cats, then she got pregnant)...and he tries to make up for it by saying sorry, so i forgive him anyway. just buy the tank then when its already set up, show her and i'm sure itll be fine. i mean...she's not gonna leave you bcoz of a tank, right? and an argument always makes a relationship stronger its good to have a bit of fire from time to time ;)

well just think of it this way it has been 3 year and how many time have you messed up:naughty: if it lots then this is just one more mess up by you. if you dont mess up lots then this is the first big mess up you did and she will get over it. plus in 3 years she is NOT going to leave you over some fish tank. BUT she will bring it up for the next 2,000 years:irked: so what ever. if it were me i would have the tank all set up in the house and starting the yelling. lol hope this help:ROFL:

lol

nooooooooooo don't get rid of the kitchen table!!!! are you crazy! ;)

i tell ya summat if i lived with a guy who moved something of mine for something of his ( not fish tanks because were gonna have loads anyway ) even if i like the thing...... i'm still gonnna act pissy about it just because i can and then you get make-up sex and stuff so i recon its a win win.

if he got the tank, i wouldnt be mad so much as wondering where the hell were going to put it. my books are not leaving the house. i am not giving up a couch for a la-z-boy. yes they are comfy as hell (i sit in my bf's all the time) but i have a daughter whose here part time too. she needs places to sit. my books are also accessible to her (some of them anyway). the other big problem for me is the amount of water wed be using. our landlord pays the water bill without asking for a dime from us. id feel better if we got his permission first. id be totally ok with buying the tank, giving the fish in it away (i dont really want african cichlids) and saving it for later. i can totally picture how happy my pleco would be with so much room. also, i trust my bf's judgement on things. hes seldom wrong.

i dunno, i want it and i dont.
