So I've been offered a free 6 inch female GT, and am sorely tempted at this point in time; but would like some opinions on how tolerant female GT's are of dithers such as say tiger barbs, in a 55.

I've only kept a male GT, and he destroyed everything; so I'm guessing the answer will be no to female dithers, or luck of the draw? (Kept in separate tank from male, so no breeding yet!)

Generally females are pretty chilled by themselves if not breeding or protecting eggs . Can't see a prob keeping one in a 55 with a couple of robust dithers. I have done it before with a 6 inch male.

What sort of dithers have you had success with? :)

Although it's not recomended when I was 15(13 years ago and my parents couldn't afford internet) I had my 6 inch male gt in a 55 with a 12 inch oscar, a firemoth and at least 15 convicts and all was fine. That was along time ago though when I was young and naive and buying from a shop that kept breeding pairs of synspilums in 1.5 foot tanks

Haha thats crazy, I've got similar memories of stuffing plecos, tetras, corydoras, angelfish; into a 6 gallon tank when i was young and uneducated on fishkeeping!

My 4.5 inch female GT is pretty chilled, she only gets aggressive when she's protecting eggs, and even then she stays with the eggs in a corner, and only keeps the other fish away with little nip. I've got her in a 60g 3ftx18x21 with 7 tiger barbs, a BN and a 1 inch male con. All is well, and none are aggressive towards each other.
