What is the proper way to clean your tank and accessories...

when I visit my LFS, I notice that in the tanks, the plants and accessories have a algae build up and also a white scale build up on the tops and filtering equipment....but water looks great

Is it advisable to leave that stuff or remove it..... I know you don't want to kill the BB but is all that build up ok??

When you start to remove vowels
it's too clean.

I'm new at this, but I generally don't allow buildup on my equipment. The only buildup I've had so far is the white fuzzy algae/whatever that stuff is, but I just brush it off in the aquarium. I don't take my decorations out and clean them or anything like that, just sometimes as I'm vacuuming I kind of dust the equipment and bad spots on the decor with my other hand to knock some of that crap free.

to be honest I get more dust on my filters than anything else
basically no algae, filters pull out everything, i don't even gravel vac
I got a lot of salt creep from my marine tank and I cleaned that by knocking it loose
so I wipe everything down when/as I service and dust occasionally
I would not use anything but tank water and elbow grease as regular housekeeping
