It is my understanding that gar are slow growers and are subsequently slow to reproduce, is it just a matter of populations being secluded and cut off to the point that natural inbreeding occurs just enough to not scuff the population's integrity while still throwing out things like axanthics or melanistics? Or are said mutations just living winning lottery tickets people have bred, bought, and thrown out for some hopeful and lucky person to eventually see or catch?
