How come mutations in gar appear in the wild so often?

It is my understanding that gar are slow growers and are subsequently slow to reproduce, is it just a matter of populations being secluded and cut off to the point that natural inbreeding occurs just enough to not scuff the population's integrity while still throwing out things like axanthics or melanistics? Or are said mutations just living winning lottery tickets people have bred, bought, and thrown out for some hopeful and lucky person to eventually see or catch?

Don’t think they are slow growers. Maybe just bad keepers. The xanthics and melanistics are usually captive bred. Gars are bred now in Asia and brought over to the lfs.

Thought so, I've seen alot of videos of people "catching" "wild" gar of different colors, probably clickbait except for the one where they speared a gold one, that would be a very expensive clickbait to pull...
