I ask because at cleaning time, mine (5" minus tail) enjoys launching full nuclear strikes on my knuckles/fingers, which was cute two months ago, but is now slightly painful and I'm thinking she'll soon be able to draw blood. So in all seriousness, how much damage can an oscar really inflict if they got a good shot at a finger? Is there much I can do? I thought about wearing rubber gloves but I'm worried about toxic chemicals coming off them into the tank.

At larger sizes they can draw blood, but I don't think anyone has lost a limb to one.

oh., she will draw blood sooner or later., it's just a matter of time., i have a 5 inch flowerhorn., and each time i put my hand in the aquarium it wouldget some skin., really painful., better to put some gloves on.,

Ive gotten minor cuts from bites from my oscar,he is 13" or so now.Worse is the dorsal fin,its sharp. He got between my arm and the glass once when I was cleaning the tank and cut me up a bit.

Okay, that's a relief. I was envisioning mangled fingers, but scratches I can deal. My limbs feel much more reassured now :)
