I am thinking about building a pond for my turtles. If they can be left in it year round how deep would it need to be for them to make it through winter?

Thats the reason I have multiple tanks and am now building a pond. It all started with a little YBS. From my understanding if the water is going to drop below 60 deg you will want to make a soft silty area on the bottom that they can burrow into and hibernate.
thats what i read but i also saw that hibernating a captive turtle can be fatal if not done properly
