How did YOU apply your vinyl background?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I cant be the only person applying with water... Considering that it looks 1000x's better. That is until air pockets sneak in.
Imagine window tinting. Spray water on the background (surface to touch glass) lay it on there, and vigorously squeegee the air bubbles out.
The reason I posted this is to see if anyone thought of the same and has a liquid that could replace the water and ensure clarity and adhesion with a strong resistance to air bubble accumulation.

Foster and Smith Aquatics sells a product called Seaview Gel that's used to attach aquarium backgrounds. From what I've heard though, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
One of the ways to guarantee you don't have bubbles is to paint the background on, have you considered that?

Applying paint to the glass? Like Between glass an vinyl?
Or just freehand paint whatever on the glass?

No I haven't considered either.

well they do have Silver, Blue, and i think green...but no backgrounds that look like something...i wish they had that too...would have been nice!

Taped mine up and started from the top down. It will push under the top trim lip of the tank no problem, after that I just used packing tape on the sides then bottom edge. Watch for bubbles then pull any slack back towards the top. When you have it nice and tight and bubble free tape up the top as well so no water ever makes it back there.

When applying the tape make sure not to leave too much exposed to adhere to the glass. If done right the tapes edge should match up to the silicone line and essentially be invisible.

Don't waste your money on the sea gel to apply the background it sucks and is a waste of money...It made so many air pockets so I jus ended up taping my background...
