Hey All,

So I am pretty new to the site. I have two green sunfish right now and I am starting to become addicted to this whole hobby...(first step is always joining a forum heh). I am on tons of other forums for my other hobbies and I know every time I join a new forum I feel overwhelmed. I have been looking through the sticky with everyone's setups and I must say, I have no idea where all of you learned this stuff. I know how to do all the construction of everything, that's not a problem. It's just all the crazy stuff I see about bacteria colonies and whatnot that leads me to the question, where did all of you learn these things? I realize reading through the forum/searching stuff is highly encouraged, and I have been doing alot of it. But are there any books or stickies that would really benefit me? I want to learn everything I can so when I get out of college (and build my house with a nice in-wall tank :naughty:) I am ready to go haha. I want to setup a 55 gal at my house this summer too.

Ok enough rambling haha

Thanks
Ty

Most important to read is the sticky about "cycling."

That'll explain the nitrogen cycle, and all about bacteria, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates.

Welcome.

Thanks, I'll read it during my History class in 15 minutes...heh.

I didn't wanna ask a question that could be answered if I used the search button, but I needed to know where to start haha

Read, read and then read some more. There is tons of information on this site!

Well that right there makes you smarter than half of the people on this site. Like pharaoh said, there's a lot of info on this site. The search function is your friend!

find A thread that someone started about what you want to eventually achieve and learn from them. I am into cat fish and read the one about pepper in the catfish media and learn as im sure the 30 to 40 view a weak on the thread in my sig are probly doing to me.
Another thing is learn the slang and get used to useing it. for example I am raising a red tailed catfish but to find anything on this site your better to use the slang term of RTC.

Its refreshing to see a new member that knows how to use the forums. Welcome to MFK, one of the best aquatic sites around.

When you are ready to build your house, I am sure you will have a drip system so you do not have to do any water changes. Its the only way to do things. When that time comes, you can get in perfecting your filtration so that it will be silent.

Beware, this site will have you spend more money with more research. Buts the right way is the only way to do things.

I have never been able to explain forums, but this nails it perfectly haha. Every forum I have joined for free (all of them), has made me want the best stuff and spend more money than I planned, but it's the right way to do it. My jeep has gotten me the worst haha
