I have a few guppys in my 10 gal. I know that there live bearers. What my ques. is is how do they breed. i know that the male turns sideways in front of the female and does like a little dance for her but i noticed that the boys look like there trying to bite the female on her side. What exactly are they doing? I mean how exactly so they inject the sperm into the female? I'm not trying to be sick. I'm just really curious. They just move so fast you can't see anything.

Thanks for the link but i guess i still don't understand. In the picture it looked like the male was going right up inside of the female. I read the article, but i didn't understand it.

lol same here. i hate reading long texts. my attention span is too short! lol
wait, why are we here again? lol! :screwy:

The male buys the female a few drinks. The male offers to take the female back to his place after a few drinks, and magic happens. Isn't that how all breeding takes place?

Yeah, the illustrations leave something to be desired....
Male guppies have a modified anal fin called a gonopodium.
They use this to inject sperm into the female by swimming along side her and swinging it forwards and to the side until it makes contact with the females sex organs.
The male then inserts it, injects sperm into the female and hey presto, 4-6 weeks later you have a whole lot more guppies!
Got it now?

Hey, this is good practice if I ever have to tell kids about the birds and the bees...!!

basically they have sex, unlike other fish that drop the eggs then have the male spread his seed over them. This is the same for all live bearers.

Not ALL breeding, but it's certainly a good way of breeding ewurms.....
