Twice I have had this problem which has caused my basement to become flooded when on vacation. I had a powere outage which shut down the filter and apparently started the process of emptying the tank. I vhave two eheim cannister filters. Is there an attachment I could put on the tubes to prevent this?

How are your canister filters siphoning out of the tank? Both the input and the output should be in the tank.

I thought a canister was a closed loop.
How does it flood ?

Edit: I need to learn to type faster. Hi Pharoah

You and me both lol OP, are you sure its flooding from the filter and not something like an air pump or similar back syphoning? In theory a canister shouldn't / cant flood as its a closed system, if its going to leak then it would do so all the time especially when running / under pressure.

The only Eheims that usually experience this problem are the 2026/2028 models when there is an issue with the primer pump gasket failing. At least the only ones I've heard of and experienced 1st hand.

The other possibilities are if the head gasket/o-ring is worn or the latching clips/clamps are loose.

I really doubt its the Eheim's fault. More than likely its an air pump or other device that is siphoning the water out. If so, a simple check valve can be installed.
