I want to build a sump/filter for my 175g tank doesn't have to look good but i want it to be super effective. I've seen a few ideas in pictures and videos on the web that are helping my design but every new idea raises a new question.

So far I'm thinking of using a pre made overflow box, going down to a 5g bucket or set of craft drawers with my media inside. The sump will be a rubber maid storage box.

What I'm wanting to know is what type of pump will i need to return the water? which overflow box is for me? will a design like this be effective compared to my fuval? is it cost effective?

Any ideas you guys have for me would be great.

Thanks

i would also recommend using some rubbermaid containers for your sump. they are wicked cheap at walmart!!!! a 45 gallon rubbermaid tub is only 14 bucks with a lid. i know many people use glass tanks for their sumps, but this just seems like a waste to me

my tank is 175 gal and currently there is no stock. i plan to put a jar and have some fun trying to find tank mates. I am currently using a fuval 405 which is probably adequate but I think that the project will be fun. plus my motto is "if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing."
