i have two aquariums- a 3 foot tank and a 2 foot tank. in my 3 foot i have a 3 inch Bn plec, and in my 2 foot i have a 5 inch common albino plec. i want to swap them over. what is the best way to catch them, and do i need to float them before releasing into their new homes? both tank are established.

Do it like a normal fish. People think plecos can just be thrown into tanks but that isnt good at all.

A net.

i thought they had spines that could get caught in a net? i thought i might try to catch them, especially the bigger one in a jug.

I use one of the big gulp cups that has been thoroughly cleaned and washed out with only water. I don't float fish, I use a bucket with the water that came with the fish. Then I slowly take water from the tank using airline tubing into the bucket. To ease the fish into the change of temperature and parameter changes.

agreed... NO net. they'll get stuck. especially the BN with those cheek spines and odontodes...

I use the bucket method as well and usually catch mine by hand. I have however been stuck with the cheek spines. When I catch small Pim cats with the very sharp barbs a brand new net seams to work better than an old one for some reason. Possibly because it is still stiff and not broken in yet, not sure.
