Ok, I just got a pound of beef heart. What do I do? Do I fry it or Boil it? How small and how many pieces should I feed him? Are there any parts of the beef heart I should remove? Thanks alot!

What do I do?
remove any visible fat cut it into strips and give it to him
many pieces should I feed him?
As many as he'll eat you don't want this sitting in the tank
Are there any parts of the beef heart I should remove?
just any fat

So what you go to the grocery store, buy an actual heart of a cow, and cut it up and just feed it? no cooking? Ewwww... I thought you just buy it frozed like the blood worms...

There's all types of heart from chicken to pork heart here in chinatown and at cheap prices. My only concern now is that do I have to run it through water and wash it or something? Any issues with germs?

you can do both types....you can buy the frozen type like bloodworms sold at pet stores. or if you want it fresh and cheap, get it at your local market if its available, then clean it and process it yourself.

when i get beefheart, i cut off any fat and then deshell some shrimp, put it all in a food chopper thing, mix it with flakes, dried krill and brineshrimp, some garlic powder, hardboiled egg and then put it into little 3/4" balls on a cookie sheet, freeze it and then put it in bags and feed two cubes a day. they love it and so so the rest of the fish

i cut the beefheart into small bits just enough for your bichir can swallow. and then i just drop in the tank. dont worry bichirs have strong sense of smell. just remove the fats and no need to cook it....

But noone has addressed whether or not you cook it.:swear: Also can you use other animal hearts i.e. chicken.

you feed it raw/uncooked

and yes variuos parts of chicken can be fed heart, gizzard.Remove any fat and feed no more than they eat.do not leave any uneaten in the tank as it can and will foul the water
fairly quickly-Anne
