I am redoing the overflow box on my tank, the old silicone job was very ugly(not done by me).

How can I go about removing the silicone he put on without damaging the factory seal(factory seal is in perfect condition).

Or do I need to remove all & reseal the whole tank?

Thanks

how are you going to redo it
make it bigger?
i wouldnt mess with it unless you have to

new silicone doesnt stick to old silcone as well as it does to say glass
but it does stick if you start removing it you may find you have pulled loose the factory seal

Carefully cut it away with a razor knife and alot of patients (without cutting into the old seal)...don't rush your work.

Better yet go with wangster11235's idea.

Youll have a potential leak at that one point where the new and old silicone meet.Scrape and clean the glass really well right up to the factory seal, the more solidly the glass is glued the better the chance for no leaks.

Id reseal the whole tank but Im:screwy:

Thanks for the replys.

The tank is going to be a bare bottom tank,so hiding the problem with gravel is not an option.
not to mention that is were the overflow box has to be reinstalled(I should have said that before...)

Looks like im gonna have to reseal the whole tank.

I have resealed smaller tanks before with no issues,is a large tank going to be just as easy?
