I want algae in my tank , i 80% of it to be continuously covered in algae.

would it be a good idea if i collected some from the wild or got it from local aquarium keepers.

I can't seem to grow any even with direct sunlight and fertilizer.

you could try keeping the lights on 24/7 too. Is it a newly established tank?

lol may i ask why?

phosphates and high oxygen content are the recipe for algae. high nitrates help as well

yah its a newly established tank but iwant to eventual have that algae that looks like slime covering the back and side glass panels, and my decorations.

I have no tank light because i figure sunlight throught a south facing window would be goo enough to grow low light plant life.

so will harvested algae, from other fish keepers tanks, grow in my tank.

There's no such thing as spontaneous generation! An algal spore or two is bound to find its way into your tank eventually, but it will take it a while to build up a noticeable population. "Seeding" the tank with algae from another source will speed up the process.

noto I know that i put two rocks from my pond that have a nice layer of algae on them a week ago and that hasn't spreed so are their any algae i should look for that looks like slim when in water could anyonegive me a sspecies name or picks so when i go algae gathering outside and with locals tanks I have something to look for that grows quickly.
