How do I get the scratches out

I have an acrylic tank that has some scratches in it. I want to go ahead and get rid of them. I hear people talking about buffing them out. How exactly do you do that?

Scratches are as simple as 600 or 1000 grit wet sand then 2000 or 2500 grit wet sand and then buff

That will come in handy thanks. Mine are all on the inside. Are there any special steps to take on the inside?
