How do I keep my overflow clean?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have some MTS and some pond snails that live in there. Not something I intentionally did. They just happen to migrate there and eat any food that get stuck in the overflow. I used to siphon whenever I did a water change but that got old quick.

Do you mean the coloration on the glass? I would have painted it to match the background... But now I think scraping it would be the only solution. Maybe keep a small mag float in there?

It's not the color that bothers me its the food and other stuff in it. I don't want snails or fish in the overflow because it get suck into my other tank

Get a long, slender bristle brush and make it part of your cleaning regimen. I use a the cheapo straight toilet brush from dollartree, but I know petsmart has one that's maybe 1.5" diameter bristles and 12-18" long.

At least your setup doesn't appear to have any plumbing in the overflow itself.

Most overflow are black so they don't grow algae. You could put a black acrylic cover over it?

How u put a black cover over it? And it's mostly food that don't get suck down the pipe that are in there. Should I put bio all and a Pleco down there. I have 2 Adonis pleco in my sump
