Basically title covers my question. But I've read around and see people question if its a "true" gator gar or not. are there fake ones? or just are they sometimes just sold as gator gars when they're actually a different type of gar?

Post a picture of it, and I'll tell you what it is.
It's pretty easy to tell a true alligator gar from another species of gar as they're much more heavily built & have broader jaws than other species. There are other diagnostic features as well, too, but they're more color & pattern-based which can vary from fish to fish. The whole "two rows of teeth" thing is useless as all gars have two rows of teeth, but they're more pronounced in alligator gars & other Atractosteus.

Second pic points gator.
Can't tell from the others.
Can you post one of the snout, facing us?
Did you pick up that from Tropical Island? I picked one up too lol
