I'm getting ready to start in on my seventy gallon tank and I'm going to try and create a CA Lake (Nicaragua) biotope. Well I'd like to create a nice looking substrate, this is a show tank so I need it to be natural looking. I've done several Google and Yahoo searches and info related to what these fish hover over seems to be sand/rock. So I am thinking of using the following materials for substrate:
Bottom layer-Pool filter Quartz type sand, fine grade
Middle layer-Pea Gravel
Top layer-Mexican Beach Pebbles (various sized round stones)
Any help on how to blend the three to create that natural look would be much appreciated or any reccomendations of what to use would also be very helpful, if you have any pics that could help give me an idea also I'd really appreciate it. I have to make this tank look good, that was part of the deal I made with the wife to get it.
