I just went to That Fish Place for thier 36th anniverserie sale. They had used 40g breeders for 40 bucks!! or 3 for 25 dollars each!! great deal!
Anyways I have wanted to buy my wife a tank for awhile so i bought her a 40g. In the center of the tank thier is a black overflow. Inside demensions of the overflow are, 4.5" by 5" by 15" tall. I have to plug the hole at the bottom which i know how to do(piece of plexiglass, siliconed around it). I want to make the overflow into a holder for a sponge filter. How would i make one? I think i know how just before i do all this work i want to be sure. Is there one large enough to fill the overflow that i could just buy? Yes i know i will have to drill into the overflow housing for a sponge filter. The stock will be a sexed pair of cherax destructors. I want this to be the main biomedia. so my filtration experts help me out!!!
Oh and somebody tell me a store or post a direct link plz, to a site were i can buy 3m color quartz. She wants black.
Heh, now i got my wife into my hobby, there is no limit. Only kidding.

It sounds like a good idea and your on the right track its a great way to hide an ugly sponge. I would make sure it has plenty of water to draw in at the bottom. Maybe create some slits or small holes at the bottom of the over flow. I may have your question completely misunderstood. If you can describe it again I may be able to help more. sorry i have some pretty bad visualization skills.

Build yourself a DIY wet/dry out of a storage container and a small submersible pump. That may be a bit overkill for your setup, but you did post on MFK.

I would personally not even bother trying to put it back there. It wasn't made for that purpose. Just stick a Hydro Sponge in there and be done with it.

your close tcars

i want to build one or buy one for it. Do you know were i can get a sponge filter big enough to fill it? or what type of sponge i need to make it? would a sponge this big be enough for a pair or cherax destuctors?
I am not building a diy sump for this. this is going to be a simple setup for my wifes first tank. and were can i get 3m colorquartz?????? i cant find it!!
