How do i setup this filter?

A co-worker of mine gave me this setup for free, he said theres only one piece missing...i think he mentioned a pump or something. He had this setup just sitting around, no longer into the fish hobby. No input on how to set it up, im at a loss here...advice? I tried doing some research, but my current filters are overhang...so im totally new to this type of filter. do you think this would be better then 2 overhangs rated at 100gallons a piece...my tank is a 150gallon.

he'll be bringing the extra piece to me tomorrow...this looks like it could be a nice setup, im just unsure on how to hook it all up...suggestions??

It looks like some kind of wet-dry. You can easily google it (maybe try " DIY wet-dry filter) and find out how they work. It pretty simple, but since a lot of (like all? ) wet-drys use siphons, you have to set it up right so nothing overflows when you have a power-out. Other than that, wet-drys are excellent. Good Luck!
