how do i start a planted tank?

hey everyone i have been thinking about putting plants in my new 84 gal and i need some help on how to start everythin.:nilly: **i am trying to stay low budget btw**
 
Judging by your name...Is there an oscar in that tank?

in my other tank yes, but the one i want to use plants, no. in that tank will be my two angels and a shoal of rummey nose tetras
 
ah...haha, ok. I can save my breath on that one...I think my best advise for you would be to check out AC. They have a HUGE planted tank section. Anything you would want to know is there.

they have GREAT stickies on what you need

but first things is first: determine what you want.
high/mid/low light
--keep in mind the depth of the tank, and how light will have to travel further to reach certain plants.
consider the plants that will thrive under the type of lighting you choose.
some plants may need fertilizers, and proper substrate. sand is not so great with most types, neither is too large-sized gravel as they inhibit root growth.

basically, go to the planted section. it's great. you got some very knowledgeable moderators there like WyldFya. he's crazy.
