I'm about to get a giant tub thing for my turtle, I want to hook it up with like a log or two and some plants from outside. Whats the best way to sterilize stuff like that?

:newbie:

Logs? Soaking in hot saltwater.
Plants can bathe in a bleach/water solution for a couple minutes and then rinse and soak in a bucket of clean water with dechlorinator (will neutralize any bleach remnants).

Thanks = )

boiling works great on wood and rocks, just make sure the wood u collect is a hardwood, softwoods rot much quicker, and develop mold and fungus easier

U can also try baking ur wood

it's a turtle... it's from the wild... just toss the wood in... unless it's near some sort of oil spill or contaminated area.. in that case don't even pick it up...lol

Any wood I have used was too big to boil. I bake anything I am not sure of. Put foil under the wood and bake @ 225 f for 90 minutes in the oven. Be sure to check every so often to make sure nothing goes up in flames (the foil should protect that from happening tho).
