I have a filter in my 6 gallon gourami tank that doesn't have an adjustable flow. The little guys seem to be struggling in the surface current. How should I go about reducing the surface current? I was thinking of making a flat piece of plastic to disperse the water and slow it down before it hits the tank water.

well if you can't adjust flow the only other thing i can think of is redirecting the flow but in a 6gal it's going to cause a current no matter what.......have you tried putting more floss/cotton fabric or media in the filter, may cause it to overflow if you do to much

What kind of filter?

It's an Eclipse System 6

Have you tried a timer on it, reducing it's activity, 40 minutes on 20 minutes off for example?

Cut a sponge filter with a slit and put it under where the water goes into tank. That should disperse some of the current.

That's a good idea! That should add extra filtration as well. So far I'm liking this idea the best.

Thats probably your best bet. I was hoping you had a normal HOB filter. Most people dont know that you can lift the draw tube up on them in small increments and it decreases flow the higher you lift.

6 gallon gourami tank? I hope they are sparkling gouramis, anything else would get too big.

Yup, they're sparklers! Pretty little things.
