I have been trying for awhile now to take good pics of my tank to share but they always come out looking terrible. My camera won't seem to not flash AND be unblurry. It's either horribly dark and washed out because of the flash or it's blurry and unrecognisable. Can anyone help? Is there any specific tactics I can use?

Thanks.

Well depends on you camera. If you cant change settings, you can't do much. Generally you need a relatively high ISO without it becoming grainy, no flash with a well lit tank in the dark, and high shutterspead and a steady hand. Or alternatively you could go to part of the network, and join Aquatic photography- sister site.

Light, lots and lots of light, if you can take good pics outside in daylight then you can do the same with your fish, you just need to bounce enough photons off those fishies :)

practice :D

Definitely set your camera up on a table or something solid when taking pics without flash. It makes a world of difference.

a neat little trick i figured out is that if you want to use flash but everytime you do it comes out with the glass being blurry from the flash try putting the camera right up next to the tank touching it and then take the pic, it makes them come out way better.

well first of all, which camera do you have?

most digital cameras have flash on and off options.

closeup pictures should be taken with the macro setting on.

depending on the camera, you should be able to manually adjust the settings according to the available lighting and the speed of your subjects.

Thanks for the quick replies I'm going to try some of these ideas now, I'll let you know. My camera is a Samsung Digimax V800.

other option which i use is with the flash on, hold camera right up next to the glass and take pictures that way the flash goes into the tank and not reflected off the outside of the tank
