Hello--

I finally got my 56 gallon tank and decided to go with a sand substrate. Now I have to rinse 60 lbs. of sand and I really don't know the best way to do that. I guess I could put it in a pillow case and wash it out tht way, but wndered if anyone here has any advice?

Thanks,

dump a few inches of it in a bucket, put water in it, stir, dump, repeat...get pool filter sand, it will only require one rinse, it's really clean...

you can get a 5 gal bucket of concrete sand for $0.75 at a concrete plant and wash it in the pillow case. That is what i did worked great just takes some time for the crap to come out.

I use a 5gl Home Depot bucket and put in the whole bag of 3mColor Quartz (50lbs) and I turn on the water hose full blast and use my finger to make more pressure. I just hold the hose like this at the bottom of the bucket and move it around... usually takes me about 5min for the water to clear up. But I go past the 5min mark to try to get everything out... (With all the pressure and the height of the Home Depot Bucket none of the 3m S grade comes out)

I found that moving the hose in a circle motion works best compared to up and down. Up and down makes the sand go up and down (this is where sand will come out of the bucket)
