They do ok in it depending on species. Hard water, high pH can cause hith/lateral line degradation in some of the more sensitive species. I've raised monos, kelberi, azuls, pinima, and ocells in it and we have liquid rock here where I live. Personally I only had issues with my ocell and one of my cb kelberi. I don't remember for certain how high my pH was.

My tap water is a bit hard and I suspect my kel's colors would look better if the hardness was not an issue.

I doubt if the water has any effects on the fish's behavior.
