how do u make driftwood yourself

You buy untreated hardwood timber/untreated logs and carve it to the shape you want.

Personally I'd use meranti, it's quite soft and easy to carve with a knife.

does the untreated hardwood need soaking, does it release anything harmful to the fish or discolour the water.
