How do you know if your newly aquired ray has an internal parasite? Should you treat them all as if they did?

i would say its safe to use prazi pro every time and treat them all just to be sure.. it sure sucks dealing with parasites..

guess it really depends where the ray is coming from, import from SA or LFS, captive bred or wild etc.

what color is the rays poop?????

It is very rare for rays to have parasite problems out of over 40 rays we own I have treated them all and never found one to contain any parasite problems. I just think it is a good idea to treat all rays just to make sure and everytime you add a new ray treat them all if you can't quarantine just the new ray. Hope this helps

I find that most freshly imported rays, being bottom dwellers, are often riddled with internal parasites.

I would say most of new raykeepers mysterious deaths come from this reason. Especially if the ray is labeled 'Teacup', its a sign that the wholesale and LFS have no idea about how to keep rays, and sell them like any other fish.

I would treat as a precaution.

I just received some rays that were already suppose to be treated. One of them produces long white stringy poops, and loses his 'J-Lo' booty faster than the others. These are signs of parasites.

PraziPro works good from what I understand.. I am in the 2nd day of treatment so far, no stresses.

Do you just use the bath method with PraziPro?

Out of those 40 rays, how many were freshly exported from the wild (2-4 weeks?)

any other good medicines against internal parasites? ive got some rays coming in next week and wanna be ready. problem is i cannot get PraziPro here...

I found 2 alternatives to Prazipro for sale in Europe :-
Sera Tremazol
Munster Dactymor

Both contain praziquantel and are said to be ray safe.
The instructions for both require large water changes pre and post treatment and I'm not sure how the concentrations differ from Prazipro - will know more when my order arrives.
