How do you Aimara-Proof your tank top?

I'm one of the finicky guys who only has one or two projects going that I really try to make everything perfect so I'm looking for the most visually appealing way to do so. I may have to get a canopy after all, in my experience I think they probably discourage fish to jump too.

I've thought about this for a while now too. Although I never seen my payara jump, I've heard otherwise and this kinda goes for many species such as arowanas, african tiger fishes, etc. Basically any powerful fish that has the ability to jump.

And I'm in the same boat as you -- if I should make a modification, not only does it have to be functional, but needs to be easy on the eyes as the minimum. I thought about using latches, locking the canopys to the aquarium frame.. only thing is I'm trying to figure out something that wouldn't make it a hassle to open every time I need to feed or do maintenance.

Right now I think my best bet is to use the canopy to conceal whatever may be weighing down the top.
I may also look into some sort of mid to high-end decorations that could compliment the tank and put some weight on top.

Just get a glass top thats a bit heavier and just leaves enough room for a filter.

Rocks and more rocks! When he was smaller I had mine in a 90 gallon with about a 4lb rock on the lids and it jumped and knocked the rock to the ground and still got out of the tank. I now have 15-20 lbs worth of rock holding down the lids on the 150 gallon and he hasn't moved them yet....

Aimara doesn't push lid like arowana or arapaima. It jumps thru opening. As long as the lid cover completely, with decent weight (~5lbs), it won't get out. However, if you have a small gap or hole that you think is too small for it to get out, it will get out..

Thankfully none of my Aimara's jumped out of the tank, but my first one tried. Let me tell you it was about 14 inch and jumped like a torpedo hitting the glass so effen hard i thought it broke for sure. Everything i had on top like lids, light and a 10lb weight shifted so do not underestimate these fish, they are extremely powerful. Best bet I think would be to have a canopy covering the tank so even if it does break the glass or gets through an opening it won't get much farther then that, thats what i have now so my 22 inch torpedo with teeth doesn't jump out and bite my face while I'm playing PS3 lol.

I suggest to fasten down some kind of 1-2" plex cover that over laps the sides by an inch. drill some holes and attach some kind of ss thin cable to a base or something. I have more experience with thise fish then anyone. Cant tell u how many people including myself lost a prized aimara by it breaking through a typical tank cover...just saying
