how do you brace a floor for aquarium its a 300gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used 18000 lb floor jacks in my basement under my larger tanks. I use a 2" pc of board ( 14x32" or so) to span 3 or 4 floor joists and lock in place with the jack direct onto the concrete floor. Stabilizes the entire room!

Hello; Would help to know what kind of floor. Do you have a crawl space or full basement? Wooden floor joists? If wood are they the old dimensional lumber type on 16 inch centers or the newer engineered type? Are the joists in any way compromised by being notched, rotted or insect damaged? I can go on some more.
If using a potential of 12 pounds per gallon with all stuff the 300 gallons might weigh 3600 pounds.

Hello; here is the web address of an article that talks about the issue.

My take is that the question can only be answered by someone with knowledge of structure actually having a look to see what you have and what condition it is in. A contractor? There have been posts describing damage from tanks from time to time, so it does happen. Good luck.

I agree with S skjl47 anyone here can easily tell you how to do it and what you need to do it, since if anything happens to the tank or the house it has zero effect on them...

If you really arent sure and want to be 100% safe though, then get someone qualified to come have a look at your space and give you solid advice...

Coz 300G is no joke if anything goes wrong and whether renting or owning the house, you definitely dont want to deal with 300G of water damage...
