if you had to.These are big fish and strong. So how would you do it?-Anne

I often use a sling for large gar (anything over 30 inches) smaller I just use a Net or just a plastic bag. (Note on nets.. Be wary of them wrapping their teeth up in them Move them quickly and carefully and support the head and body to keep them from thrashing around)

Generally move them around in various sized coolers with an aerator.

similar, it that homemade??? if so what material is that?

mine looks to have less slack in the material so the fish wont move or thrash as much, i have a 32" and a 60"

ill will look up the composite of the material on mine because i know its meant to handel trout which are very susceptible it disease if any of their slimecoat is damaged

I don't use net with gars as the teeth sometimes get stuck on the net and might break the snout if it twitches. One of my 12" longnose gar broke the lower jaw when the teeth got stuck on the net. Now it barely catches the food as it can't maneuver the food to the mouth anymore.

Now I just use a big plastic bag or just my own two hands, by holding the head close to the eyes and holding the tail.

One pictured was homemade and used to move around a 6 foot gator so it is a bit more rugged than the smaller versions. This one is actually coated canvas. Smaller ones I have are made of coated 1/4 inch netting and has more of a "basket" built into them. I'll have to get a pic of one..

I'm interested in these trout ones as I've never really seen one in person.. Do you know of any retailers for them? I think I may pick up a few...

any bass pro shops or cabelas will have them usually in the fly fishing sections, but a actual fly fishing retailer may have higher quality ones
