hey, since most rockwork in SW is permanent (ie with silicone or pvc) how are you supposed to keep the inaccessible parts clean from detritus build-up especially if you have aggressive tank inhabitants like morays? does it matter or does it clean itself?

i never glue the rocks. just stack them.

so then every WC, u just move the rocks and siphon all the gunk out of the hidden places? is it neccessary every week when doing a WC?

ya im going to have a powerhead, just didnt know if it would be enough to keep detritus buildup in every crvice of the rockwork, would i just put the powerhead just on the outside of the rockwork do create a current that would suck the detritus out or should i try to make it blow water thru it?

i just pull the large tube off of the siphone and use the hose to snake in and around the rocks to remove the debri etc.

Thats part of the planning that should go into the set-up of your tank. Some stack their rocks, others glue, but keep them about 2 inches from back pane, and other glue base rocks, and stack upper levels for easy manipulations. Just depends on how you plan to arrange it, the space you have to work with, and how good of circulation you plan to have. In addition to making sure you have powerful powerheads on your side, there are also small submersible ones which take up only a few inches, and can be suction cupped to the glass, or some even use a mag. where one side is on the outside, and the other, in the tank. These little suckers are actually pretty powerful, and usually only require a single cord, and it's very thin, so easy to hide. I have two in my smaller 29 reef, and they are placed on opposite sides of the tank, and in the middle there is a cove left open, so the debris is blown towards the middle in the cove, and once it starts floating, either my dual bio filter or protein skimmer grabs it, as those intakes are located right above that area.

i would even day put on a rotary deflector, i have them in my reef, and they are awsome, they prevent build up, and the water goes all over the place, just like int he ocean, the corals like it, and so do the fish. itll also help keep detrius from building up on one side of the rock where the power head is constantly blowing, also, it goes a long way for keeping the tank clean, and you can set up a maxijet 900 or lager, and a rotating deflector of under 50 bucks.

don't really need clean live rock, unless it grow leather algae. But if it grow those algae mostly u are using wrong way to develop ur tank, and live rock will die by it
