I have a chance to get an awesome piece of driftwood for $10. It's pretty big and has a ton of character, but it has been sitting in someone's yard for years as part of their landscaping. There're bugs and mud in it. For $10 I'll probably get it anyway, but I am wondering how I amsupposed to clean it since it is too large to boil. This is not soggy rotten wood, but it is not well cured clean DW like you would find in a pet store either. What do I do? Don't want to risk my fish. Also thinking about possible exposure to pesticides and fertilizers. Help, please.

When I added the DW to my 315G tank it was way to big to boil. I cleaned the wood up as good as I could getting all lose materials off of it and pressure washed it. I then added it to my tank and have not had any isses. Some may recommend pouring boiling water on the wood as well but I am not sure just how affective that is. It will take care of surface stuff but it's not going to get down in the wood. You might also soak it in a mild bleach or hydrogen peroxide solution as well.
