Well i just got some sand for my new tank, and i was wondering how do you prepare it for your tank? Is it the same way as gravel, or some other differnet way?

I put some in a 5 gallon bucket, put a hose in the bucket, and just let the water run until the water is clear. Even with all this rinsing, it has always still managed to make my water cloudy for some period of time.

What kind of sand is it? Some is harder to clean.

Sand in bucket and rinse and stir until water runs clear.

When you put the sand into your tank (if it's filled with water already), try scooping it into a cup and then pour out the sand at the bottom of your tank. Hopefully this will keep the cloudiness down. This is just something that people who add sand to their reef tanks do, and that sand has alot of fine particles which can cloud the tank for a few days. Do this is after you've cleaned the sand at least several times in a bucket with fresh tap water (not live sand for saltwater but your stuff).

Clean it like the others said; fill a bucket halfway and use a hose. It doesn't matter how you put it in the tank. I used PFS and it hardly clouded my tank at all. You probably won't add fish for a few days anyway, unless the tank is already set up.
