How do you control yourselves?

I keep buying more and more fish! I started with 3 tiger barbs last week. Then I picked up 3 baby IT Dats the other day and then today I bought 4 4" clown loaches for $50 and a 6" clown loach for $50. I only have a 40 gallon tank with plans very shortly for a 150g but how do you tell yourselves to not do it? Hahaha

I just try to look as far ahead as possible. I don't want a house full of mix match tanks, or 20 different species of incompatible fish. So I move slowly and plan accordingly. I rather build a rig the best I can then stock accordingly, rather than get fish and try to build a tank around them.

It's hard... So much I want but don't have room for or don't have money for.

The loaches and dats are okay but as the dats get bigger they will eat your tiger barbs but as long as the dats cant fit the loaches in there mouth they will live together fine

Yea I knew that much, thats why I get the loaches much bigger because I know they grow slowly. I'm not really a huge fan of the tiger barbs so I may end up trading them in very shortly anyway. I always feel like they're up to no good lol

I don't know much about Dats. and I think the Barbs and Loaches will be fine, just a bigger tank and the appropriate #s for best behaviors. I wasn't commenting specificly about Your stock. I personally just like to have the option of being able to shuffle fish between tanks. And I wouldn't be able to do so If I bought every fish I wanted.
 
What I do is buy fish till no more room in the tanks, buy more tanks and fill them, continue this process till you're broke and can't afford gas to go to the LFS or you get a divorce. Works for me!
 
Thats why I started bringing the wife with me to the lfs lol. She keeps me in line when it comes to spending money on the aquariums (unless its something I actualy need), she wont let me buy anymore fish till the ones we have are moved from their growout tanks to the main tank, then she says I can upgrade ONLY if I get rid of the smaller tanks lol.
 
I know what u mean its even harder when i just lost my 6" JD male so now i have 3 EBJD and 2 BGJDs And it even harder when u have a mother who doesn't let u upgrade intill u get your own place.. i sometime just want to Quit the hobby but i know they would let me get a pet rat so.. :nilly: :headshake
