Not necessarily.From what I have noticed the females are always darker then the males and there Dorsal fins are rounded.

Females will always have a blue "beard" that makes them easy to tell apart from males:

Also, males will have much more spangling in their bodies. Here's a side by side comparison showing the beard and body spangling:

EBJD are impossible to tell apart unless you vent. My bad, I just read the title and not the post so I thought u were referring to regular JD.
