How do you feel about bare bottom?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Advantages are better water quality since "gunk" is not being trapped into the substrate. Its also less stress on the fish since water changes are not so stressful, hence more likely to reproduce IMO.

yes and slates ect,

but people argue that with a bare bottom tank you can easily siphon out extra foods when over feeding fry, and others

like trying to rapidly grow discus!

and less stress with cleaning for u and the fish

So you feel that the advantages out weigh asthetics? Would u recommend a bare bottom?

Yes, I know plenty of breeders who go barebottom....

cons of barebottom include:

1) when you accidentally drop a slate, or object into the aquarium, it is more likely for the aquarium to break.

2) unattractive gunk on the bottom that you can't get out with a gravel vac (or at least my gravel vac:cry:)

3) fish more stressed if the stand doesn't completely cover the bottom of the tank.

4) can't easily plant...plants without gravel

I do think that barebottom tanks are much easier to clean and more cost efficient (I spent $60 on plant gravel:screwy:)

2- u take of the gravel vac attachment and just use the tubnig!

3- u cover it

4- you use floating plants and ones than attach to rocks

u needed 60pounds? that fish place had them a dollar a pound! and it is good quality stuff!
