Hey everyone, so with the live plants I placed in my tanks, I've noticed a population of unwanted little snails. I know there are small fish that eat them, but with all the huge fish I have, this is not an option lol. So my question is, what are some simple ways to rid my tanks of these little guys. I was thinking of adding Aquari-Sol-will that work?
Let me know!!!
Thanks in advance,
John

I think the best bet is to use something like a cucumber, place it in the tank, and then the next morning remove it with snails, then repeat as necessary with new cucumber...

Meds to kill snails can also harm fish and other inverts etc you might have in the tank...

Buy an assassin snail, few short weeks and it should drop the population down. Wouldn't go the med route personally, never medicate something if you dont have to.

^ That may help the OP with his current snail problem, but what happens when the assassin snails start to reproduce... then ur back to square 1, and can't use assassin snails to take care of the problem...

imho, manual removal is your best bet...

i agree with the cucumber method, when i treat my bn plecos in mya 36gallon planted theres always a ton of snails that eat it as well.. i actually take my snails and treat my clown loaches in my 55gallon lol

snails get sick or something when they eat cucumber? can someone tell me about this? i didn't know that...
yes, good point homer...i don't want one thing to take care of a problem and then i have another similar problem lol hahaha...I've been manually removing them but there are just SO MANY of them that it's pointless...
I keep removing them and they keep coming back! and then I see a lot of tiny ones on the glass walls and get discouraged lol
but i will get cucumber!

basically what you want to do is get a piece of cucumber, rinse it well, then slice it in half (long ways) so you have to long strips...

when you turn the lights out, place the cucumber in the tank and leave it till the next morning, then remove it along with the snails attached and repeat...

If you have a lot of snails, it could also mean they are laying eggs in the tank which is why you keep seeing smaller ones... the only thing i can suggest is to try and remove as many as possible and hope that it takes care of the problem... or maybe add more cucumber to try and maximize the amount you take out each morning?
