how do you get paint off of fish tanks? im planning on getting a used 75g for $50. it has blue paint on the back. i was just wondering how do you take the paint off? anyone?

Razor Blade and lots of elbow grease. Be careful around the silicone......

razorblade scraper, hardware store for $3

Home depot or a hardware store could set ya up with some chemicals that'd make it wipe right off and I think it would be fine as long as your careful not to get it inside the tank or near the silicone(the fumes alone of some chemicals could melt it).

Be careful when using a razorblade even with glass. Make sure that you don't dig down at all cause it can scratch it.

razorblade, be careful to keep it as flat agenst the glass as you can. and have several extra blades. After 3 or 4 passes the blade will be noticably duller. Duller blade the greater risk of scratching the glass.

If it were me I would make a 3D background and cover it up.

But if you must remove the paint:
If razor blades won't easily remove the paint you could try oven cleaner or paint stripper. If it's on the outer back you should be able to keep the chems away from the seal. If you use chemicals test in small amounts and don't soak the silicone and tape off the plastic frame so the stripper doesn't get behind it.
DISCLAIMER: Test this on a junk tank or a glob of cured silicone to make sure the chemicals don't melt the silicone. Chemicals may emit fumes.
